Prayer for the Beatification of Cardinal Stephen Sou-Hwan Kim
Servant of God
God, the Father of all mercies,
We thank you for sending us your servant, Stephen Sou-Hwan Kim. As the first cardinal of the Church in Korea, he was a guiding light and guardian of all the people amidst great political oppression and social upheaval.
We praise you for calling forth this prophet among us. He was a bastion of human rights and social justice. Through his solidarity with the poor and protection of the weak, Cardinal Kim became a bridge to communal harmony. With God's will as his guide, he actively promoted an inclusive society.
We celebrate his steadfast witness built on the faith of the martyrs. Through simplicity of life, humility, and fraternal love, your servant set us an example of prayer which was grounded in hope and always mindful of discerning and practicing the will of God.
Compassionate God, for your glory and our joy, we implore you to recognize your servant's example of virtue and grant Cardinal Sou-Hwan Kim the grace of beatification.
Bless us, O Lord, that we may be ever mindful of his legacy of faith and imitate his witness by seeking to become faithful disciples of your son, Jesus. Guided by the Spirit, may we be true lights who reveal your truth and the salt which purifies and preserves our earth.
