    Born as the eleventh son of François and Thérèse Bruguière in the commune of Raissac d’Aude near Narbonne in the Diocese of Carcassonne, France

    Studied at the Minor and Major Seminary of Carcassonne
  • 1814

    Mar 26

    Subdeacon Ordination, Taught as teacher at the Minor Seminary for 5 years.

    Priestly Ordination

    Taught as professor at the Major Seminary for 6 years.
  • 1825

    Sept. 17

    Joined the Paris Foreign Missions Society
  • 1826

    Feb. 26

    Set out to the Port of Bordeaux

    June 3

    Arrived in Bangkok, capital city of Siam via Port of Batavia (Jakarta) and the Headquarters of M.E.P in Macau. Professor at the Seminary and pastoral ministry.
  • 1829

    May 19

    Sent a letter to the Headquarters of M.E.P. saying, “We can not abandon the mission and the believers in Joseon, and I will volunteer myself for the mission in Joseon.”[1]

    June 9

    Fr. Bruguière sent a letter to the Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of the Propagation of the Faith expressing his determination to go to Joseon.

    June 20

    Mgr. E. Florens, Apostolic Vicar of Siam, sent a letter to the Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of the Propagation of Faith giving his consent to the petition of Fr. Bruguière for the mission in Joseon.

    June 29

    Episcopal Consecration. He went to Penang and carried out his pastoral ministry.

    Appointed as the first Apostolic Vicar of Joseon
  • 1832

    July 25

    Came to know of his appointment as Apostolic Vicar of Joseon through the letter of Fr. Devois.

    Aug. 4

    Left Penang with Joseph Wang, a drop-out seminarian of Penang.
    * Fr. Chastan from Penang Seminary volunteered for the mission in Joseon.

    Oct. 18

    Arrived in Macau, and received the official Papal bull on the creation of the Apostolic Vicariate of Joseon and his appointment as its Apostolic Vicar

    Nov. 18

    Wrote a first pastoral letter for the faithful of Joseon

    Dec. 19

    He left towards Dingtoucun of Fuan County, Fujian Province,
    where the Apostolic Vicar of Fujian resided.
  • 1833

    He arrived in Dingtoucun of Fuan County.

    Mar 9

    Fr. Maubant volunteered for the mission in Joseon.

    April 27

    Departed towards Nanjing.

    July 31

    Crossed Yangtze River

    Aug. 13

    Crossed Yellow River

    Aug. 26

    Arrived in the Jyli via Sandong, and stayed at the house of a faithful for a month recovering his health.

    Sept. 29

    Departed towards Jiujicun, Qixian of Taiyuan Prefecture, Shanxi Province, where Bishop Salvetti was Apostolic Vicar.

    Oct. 10

    Arrived in Taiyuan. Recovery of health. Made efforts to contact the secret envoys from Joseon Church.

    Sept. 22

    Departed towards the Catholic village of Xiwanzi, Zhangjiakou in Hebei province, pastoral area of Congregation of Lazaro

    Oct. 8

    Arrived in Xiwanzi, and met with Fr. Maubant.
  • 1835

    Jan. 26

    Received the letter from Joseon faithful in which they expressed their determination to welcome him to Joseon at the end of 1835.

    Oct. 7

    Departed towards Byeonmun, a frontier village near Bonghwang-seong
    where he was going to meet up with Joseon believers.

    Oct. 19

    Arrived in a Catholic village of Majiazi of inner Mongolia.

    Oct. 20

    Died around 8:15 PM at the age of 43

    Nov. 21

    Buried in Majiazi

    Jan. 13

    Fr. Maubant entered Joseon.

    His remains are transferred to the Yongsan Cemetery of Clergy.
